The Ball is an indie singleplay action/puzzle game, on Unreal Engine 3, for PC. Innovative physics driven gameplay. The game will be released in fall 2010 and is published by Tripwire Interactive.
We are currently working on fixing up the Ball and the weapon.
When you attract the Ball it now changes color, just like the weapon has always done. The Ball turns blue when it is attracted. If you let go it goes back to yellow.
Weapon Charging is back. Holding down primary fire increases the power of the weapon now. The kick gets twice as strong if you hold primary fire for a few seconds. The eyes of the weapon will start to blink red when it reached full power.
We are adding a third color to the Ball and the weapon. It will probably be green, and it will be used when the Ball goes into “attach” mode. Attach mode is what happens when the Ball is really close to the weapon and effectively sticks to it.
We have added a button that makes the Ball transparent. We are not sure yet if this will stay in the game, but one of the issues in the past was that people thought the Ball was too big and blocked too much of their view. So now you can hold a button, and the Ball will become transparant for as long as you hold the button.
We are trying to do something about the Ball pushing you away violently when it hits you at high velocity. The idea is to damp the Ball’s velocity when it comes close to you. We are not sure yet if we will be able to actually implement this though!
We got two interviews coming up in a week, or two, and we have recently added a cool new feature to the game! More about that next week!
There have also been changes to the website, and we are looking for an additional programmer. Contact us if interested!
The results of the grand finals of the Make Something Unreal contest were announced yesterday at the DICE Summit in Las Vegas – The Ball came second! After one and a half year of contest, the contest has finally come to an end. It has been quite a ride, and we are very happy with how we have done throughout the contest!
In other news, our trailer has now also appeared on GameTrailers. Apperantly our name is so simple that it is controversial for many, something that only helps us further.
More and more news sites are also picking up our trailer, for example: RockPaperShotgun or the big Dutch website Gamer.nl
We would also like to remind people that this will not be a full priced game. We are aiming for a price somewhere around 20EUR. We don’t know exactly how much yet, but definitely not 50EUR.
Next up: the results of the Make Something Unreal Grand Finals are going to be announced on Wednesday, and we have been working hard on a new version of “the king”. We will probably show him next week!
Here comes two new screenshots of the area we showed in the last news post.As have been said before, these areas are part of a redesigned Oztoc I. We are working hard to add new content and to improve many of the old areas, so stay tuned for future updates!
